Stromanthe Stromanthe sanguinea 'Triostar' Cultivar: "Burle Marx" Colorful Spreader for Shade Stromanthe are very colorful, tropical plants. The variegation in the leaves is simply stunning. The underside of the leaves is a striking pink and contrasts beautifully with the green and creamy colors of the tops of the leaves. This magnificent Stromanthe has exotic white, burgundy/pink, and green variegated foliage. The underside of the leaves is a maroon/burgundy color. Beautiful! The genus Stromanthe has many species scattered through Central and South America; Stromanthe sanguinea Sonder comes from the moist tropical forests of Brazil. In its native habitat, the leaves of S. sanguinea are deep rich green on top and red on the underside.        Stromanthe It blooms in early spring and the flower is a beautiful red - aging to a reddish pink. A combination of leaf shape and color makes a visual impact. On top of that it is an excellent houseplant given bright light and moderate humidity. Even it's flowers are exotic. Also excellent as a container plant and indoors as well. Stromanthe should be treated the same as Prayer Plants & Peacock Plants.	Stromanthe grows 12-18 inches high and loves shady spots. They like to stay moist and the leaves curl if they dry out too much.It thrives in the shade in moist, rich, well-drained soil.  Stromanthe does not tolerate hot, direct sun very well -- the white parts of the leaves tend to get crispy.  It is hardy to Zone 9b. In Zone 9, it can be heavily mulched for the winter and then cut back hard in the spring. Stromanthe sanguinea 'Triostar' ("Burle Marx") has been root hardy in zone 9a. Requires consistently moist soil; Do not allow to dry out.  Stromanthe does not set seed, flowers are sterile, or plants will not come true from seed.         In cultivation, the plant has produced several remarkable variegations; these have been propagated and given cultivar names. In 2004, the Flower Council of Holland listed five—'Multicolor', 'Horticolor', 'Magicstar', 'Stripestar', and 'Triostar' (often sold under the name 'Tricolor'). Growing to a maximum height about 2 feet, this Stromanthe makes a wonderful addition to that shady spot on your deck or to your houseplant collection. It does equally well in a container or in the ground. This plant is suitable for growing indoors. One of the best indoor plants around.

If you want one of this and one of that, it gets hard to discount much as each different species requires it's own prep & packing, then at USDA each has to be unwrapped and inspected then repacked. USDA requires me to clean and prepare every last piece before we drive them to the Inspection Station on the other side of the island. It takes my wife and I, a day to pack items and get ready to ship. The whole next day we drive around the island and get inspected (2-3 hours), then drive to the Airport Post Office to drop off. It takes the same work with the same type item if you can understand.
